The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is preparing to make a major change to its coaching staff, with former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait expected to take over as the national team’s pace bowling coach. He is likely to replace Andre Adams, who is stepping down from the role well before the end of his contract.

Adams, a former New Zealand cricketer, joined the Bangladesh setup in February 2024 on a two-year deal. However, reports from Bangladeshi media suggest that both Adams and the BCB agreed to part ways on mutual terms. The exact reasons for his early departure have not been made public.

Adams had taken over the role after the exit of South African great Allan Donald, who served as Bangladesh's fast-bowling coach until the conclusion of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. Despite high hopes following his appointment, Adams’ time with the team lasted just 15 months.

With the position now vacant, Shaun Tait has emerged as the top contender. Tait has built a solid coaching résumé in recent years, having previously worked as Pakistan’s fast-bowling coach and served as a consultant for Afghanistan. In franchise cricket, he was part of the coaching staff for the Karachi Kings in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has also worked with the Chittagong Kings in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Interestingly, Tait had earlier shown interest in the Bangladesh role but withdrew his application during the previous hiring process. However, the BCB reportedly reconnected with him during the recent BPL season and talks have since progressed positively. An official announcement regarding his appointment is expected soon.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh is preparing for upcoming international fixtures. The team is scheduled to play two T20I matches against the United Arab Emirates in Sharjah on May 17 and 19. These matches are part of their build-up to the Pakistan tour.

The BCB announced a 16-member squad for the T20I tours of the UAE and Pakistan. Litton Das will lead the team, having recently been appointed captain after Najmul Hossain Shanto stepped down. Off-spinner Mahedi Hasan will serve as the vice-captain.
