Essex County Cricket Club has officially announced the return of former Pakistan’s experienced fast bowler Mohammad Amir for the Vitality T20 Blast 2025 season.

The 33-year-old left-arm pacer will rejoin Essex to strengthen their bowling attack with his international experience and strong T20 record. Amir previously played for Essex between 2017 and 2019, where he took 24 wickets in 21 matches.

Although he did not feature in the knockout rounds during his earlier stint, Amir played a key role in Essex's successful 2019 campaign, when the team won both the County Championship and the T20 Blast title.

Amir has had a notable T20 career, claiming 371 wickets in 322 matches worldwide. He has also represented Pakistan in all three formats, including 62 T20 Internationals, where he picked up 71 wickets at an average of 21.94.

Most recently, Amir appeared in the 2025 Pakistan Super League for Quetta Gladiators, where he took 7 wickets in 6 games. Now, he is excited to return to Chelmsford.

“I’m really happy to return to Essex, a place that feels like home,” said Amir.

“The fans and the team have always shown great support. I’m looking forward to giving my best and helping the team do well this season,” he added.

Amir will wear shirt number 5 and is expected to play in all group-stage matches. He may also stay with the team for the knockout rounds if Essex qualifies.

Essex’s Director of Cricket, Chris Silverwood, welcomed the signing and praised Amir’s abilities.

“We’re delighted to have Mohammad back at Chelmsford,” Silverwood said.

“I’ve worked with him before and know the quality and experience he brings. He’ll be a big boost to our squad as we head into the T20 Blast,” he concluded.
