Basit Ali advised Babar to learn from Motie, who impressed with his batting under pressure during the series
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has urged Babar Azam to take lessons from West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie following Pakistan's disappointing performance in the recent second Test of the two-match Test series against the West Indies.
Babar, who struggled throughout the series, managed only one run off five balls in the first innings. Despite a cautious approach in the second innings, he was dismissed for 31 runs off 67 balls, leaving his team in a difficult position. In total, Babar scored just 45 runs across four innings during the series.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Basit Ali advised Babar to learn from Motie, who impressed with his batting under pressure during the series. Batting at number nine, Motie contributed a crucial 55 runs off 87 balls, which gave the West Indies a significant advantage in the match.
“Babar Azam needs to learn batting from Motie. He knows when to go forward and when to play back. Even top players should always keep learning. Motie was the best batter in this Test,” said Basit Ali.
Ali also criticized the Pakistan team for their loss, calling the West Indies side “weakened,” suggesting that the team should have performed better against such an opposition.
It is important to note that the West Indies' victory in the second Test was their first win over Pakistan since a seven-wicket victory in Faisalabad back in 1990, under the captaincy of Desmond Haynes.
In their pursuit of 254 runs in the second innings, Pakistan was bowled out for a mere 133 runs in the first session of the third day. Babar Azam was the top-scorer with 31 runs off 67 balls.
West Indies’ Gudakesh Motie played a key role, taking two wickets, while Jomel Warrican led the bowling with impressive figures of 5 for 27. Kevin Sinclair also contributed with three wickets.
