Formula devised to convince PSL franchises regarding addition of more teams

PCB has decided to conduct a Pakistan Super League (PSL) workshop on June 23, Friday, which will be held in Lahore. The unavailable franchise representatives, who are not in the country, will participate via Zoom call.

According to sources, PCB would provide further details regarding adding two more teams to the competitions on this occasion. The owners had already been told that a formula that would leave no financial loss to anyone will be curated.

As per the initial proposal, 95% of the central pool of revenue would continue to go to the existing six teams for another year. According to the agreement, teams can be expanded from the 11th year onwards, so both the new franchises will also earn maximum profit. PSL franchises will also be asked to buy the proposed women's league teams. If they do not wish to do so, interested parties will be contacted to whom the women's team can be sold for a designated amount of fee.

Franchises also want perpetuity rights similar to IPL, which ended in the 11th edition after taking fees for ten years in India, but PSL teams, which were sold for a lower price, don't want that. A central pool would benefit them more.

There is one more option to extend the ownership to 50 years. Under the current contract, there will be a 25% increase in the franchise fee in the 11th year.

However, with PCB management committee chairman, Najam Sethi, withdrawing his candidacy from PCB chairmanship, things are likely to take a turn and all the aforementioned plans can change.
