Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises are worried that local stars might raise objections to their salaries, particularly since the upcoming edition is expected to coincide with the Indian Premier League (IPL) schedule.
In response, suggestions have been made to offer additional compensation to foreign cricketers.
A recent meeting held yesterday, attended by PCB COO Salman Naseer, franchise owners, and other officials, highlighted these concerns.
All franchise owners collectively expressed their worries about the potential date clash with the IPL. The board assured them that direct contact would be made with other boards and players to ensure their availability for the PSL.
Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, previously proposed holding the playoffs and the final in England or Australia. Salman Naseer will review the expenses and other matters during his visit to England and provide a report, after which a final decision will be made.
It was recommended that the PCB also pitch in for any extra costs and additional compensation required for key players. Franchise owners reiterated their worry about how they would persuade local stars such as Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shadab Khan to accept lower pay if top foreign cricketers were brought in with higher compensation.
During the discussion, it was proposed to approach the broadcaster for their perspective on matches in England. A PCB representative mentioned their intention to engage with foreign boards to encourage the participation of their players in the PSL.
One owner demanded that the board allow direct contracts with foreign players, to which another owner replied that the same should apply to local cricketers as well.
