PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently visited Gaddafi Stadium to inspect the progress of the upgradation
The upgradation of the iconic Gaddafi Stadium is progressing rapidly, with nearly 60% of the renovation work now completed. The venue, which will host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in February-March, is being transformed to meet world-class standards, ensuring a top-notch experience for players and spectators alike.
Key aspects of the renovation include the final touches being applied to the flooring, while new seating structures are being constructed to accommodate the growing number of fans. These developments are a part of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) ongoing efforts to modernize the stadium ahead of the highly anticipated eight-team tournament.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently visited Gaddafi Stadium to inspect the progress of the upgradation. During the detailed tour, Naqvi reviewed the construction work on the main building and enclosures, as well as the ongoing installation of new lighting systems.
Expressing his satisfaction with the current pace of work, Naqvi emphasized the importance of completing the renovation on schedule.
“The project will be completed before the Champions Trophy at all costs," said Naqvi. "The entire team is working diligently; the project is progressing rapidly and I am personally overseeing the progress."
The renovation project is being carried out by the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), with FWO Project Director providing updates during a briefing attended by senior PCB officials, including the newly-appointed Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmed, Director of Infrastructure, Director of Domestic Cricket, and other key stakeholders, including architects and representatives from NESPAK.
As per the proposed schedule, Pakistan will be placed in Group A alongside India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, while Group B consists of England, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan. The BCCI is awaiting consultations with the Indian government before confirming participation in matches hosted in Pakistan.
The 2025 Champions Trophy will be held from February 19 to March 9, with a reserve day on March 10. Matches will be played across Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, with Lahore hosting seven matches, including the final. Karachi’s National Stadium will stage the opening match and one semi-final, while Rawalpindi will host five matches, including the other semi-final. The semi-finals are set for March 5 and 6, with the final taking place in Lahore on March 9.
