Australia’s star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell recently revealed who he considers the toughest batter he’s ever bowled to—and it’s not his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate Virat Kohli. Instead, Maxwell chose South African legend AB de Villiers, describing him as “ridiculously good” and praising his ability to hit the ball to all corners of the ground.

Maxwell shared that although Kohli is a formidable player, he’s managed to dismiss the Indian star a couple of times, which influenced his choice. Reflecting on de Villiers, he highlighted how the South African’s skill allowed him to consistently hit even well-bowled deliveries.

"Virat’s (Kohli) is pretty good, but I have got him out a couple of times, so that discounts him straight away. Probably AB (de Villiers). AB is just like ridiculously good. (He) could hit anywhere," Maxwell shared.

Maxwell recounted a memorable match against South Africa during a tri-series in Harare involving Zimbabwe, where de Villiers and Faf du Plessis dominated with hundreds on a turning wicket. He recalled being unable to contain either of them, with de Villiers and du Plessis striking effortlessly despite spin-friendly conditions.

Having played alongside both Kohli and de Villiers at RCB, Maxwell has gotten to know both stars well. Kohli is expected to remain in the team as a top retention in the upcoming IPL 2025 auction, but Maxwell's position is less certain. However, RCB may consider using the Right to Match (RTM) option to keep Maxwell on board. Fans of the franchise are hopeful that the two might play together again.
