‘Good but not great’: Inzamam on Pakistan's batting in first Zimbabwe Test

Former captain Inzamamul Haq wasn’t too impressed with Pakistan’s batting display on the second day of the ongoing first Test against Zimbabwe in Harare.

Middle-order batsman Fawad Alam completed a fourth Test century as he guided Pakistan to 374 for six and a commanding lead of 198 runs at the close of play on the second day.

“Pakistan have posted a good total on the board, as expected, but this could have been even better. I think our batsmen were overly cautious and it seemed that they didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity of scoring runs against this weak Zimbabwe bowling lineup. Scoring at a rate of around three runs an over was a good effort but not great, in my opinion,” said Inzamam while speaking on his official YouTube channel.

The tourists are replying to their host’s modest first-innings score of 176 with Fawad leading the way with an unbeaten 108 that has come from 155 balls on a slow wicket.

He has now reached a hundred on all four occasions that he has passed 50 in Test cricket.

“If you look at Fawad Alam’s strike, it was around 70-80 which was around 30-35 runs more than the other batsmen. He kept the pressure on the opposition’s bowling through boundaries, single and doubles and also ensuring that he didn’t face many dot balls,” he said.

“The good thing about Fawad Alam is that when gets set, he goes for three figures rather than throwing away his start. When he will come out to bat tomorrow, I’m sure he will be thinking about scoring a double century,” he concluded.
