Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez claims that Shahid Afridi was the reason why Ravichandran Ashwin's career was over.

While featuring as an analyst for the ongoing T20 Asia Cup 2022, Hafeez was asked about Ashwin's absence on UAE pitches which are spin-friendly.

In response, Hafeez said that Shahid Afridi wrecked Ashwin's career with two back-to-back sixes in the 2014 Asia Cup.

"I would like to credit Shahid Afridi. Thank you Shahid bhai for the two sixes which you struck towards the end of the game and helped us win. ," Hafeez said with a giggle.

Afridi ended up scoring 34 off 18 deliveries and delivered a massive blow to millions of fans across the border.

Hafeez's statement did not sit well with many fans who labelled his remarks as 'immature' and demanded an apology.
