The Hampshire Hawks have unveiled their squad for the first Global Super League (GSL), a new standalone cricket event set to debut in Guyana, with full sanctioning from Cricket West Indies and active support from the Guyanese government.
This 14-member squad, although awaiting the final confirmation of a few players, will be captained by seasoned left-arm medium-pacer Chris Wood. Known for his prowess in death-over bowling and skill with the new ball, Wood brings a wealth of experience, with over 200 T20 matches under his belt, and recently featured for the Grand Cayman Jaguars in the Caribbean MAX60 tournament.
The squad also includes former England international Liam Dawson. The spin-bowling all-rounder, who once captained England's U-19s, has built a strong reputation across global franchise circuits despite a limited stint with the national team. After six years of sporadic appearances, Dawson chose to pivot his focus to franchise cricket, where his versatility and experience make him a valuable asset.
James Fuller, the Cape Town-born all-rounder, adds further depth to the side with his robust T20 track record. Fuller’s energy and expertise in the format will be key as the Hawks tackle a challenging tournament schedule. Rising stars include Ali Orr, a promising 23-year-old top-order batter, and Sonny Baker, a 21-year-old fast-medium bowler, both of whom are expected to make notable contributions.
The Hawks’ GSL 2024 campaign kicks off with a match against the Rangpur Riders, followed by back-to-back games on November 30 and December 1. All tournament games will be held in Guyana, promising an exciting venue for this new league.
