Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has made a bold request to Gary Kirsten, urging the current head coach of the Pakistan men's cricket team to abandon his post and return to coach the Indian team instead.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Harbhajan praised Kirsten, calling him a "rare and special man" and reminiscing about the successful partnership that led India to victory in the 2011 ODI World Cup under Kirsten's guidance.

"Don't waste your time there [with Pakistan] Gary. Come back to coach Team India," Harbhajan posted.

"A great coach, mentor, honest and very dear friend to all our 2011 team," he added.

This appeal comes in the wake of reports from local media detailing Kirsten's frank address to the Pakistan team following their exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Kirsten reportedly expressed serious concerns about the fitness levels and skill sets of the Pakistani players, stating that they fall significantly short of international standards. He also pointed out a lack of clarity in shot selection, despite the players' extensive match experience.

Moreover, Kirsten noted a troubling absence of unity within the team since he took over, observing a lack of mutual support among the players, which he described as unprecedented in his career. He made it clear that only players who demonstrate significant improvements in these areas would secure their place in the team, while those who do not would face exclusion.

It is worth noting that Kirsten took on the role of head coach in April and accompanied the team during the England tour and the T20 World Cup 2024, during which Pakistan exited before reaching the Super 8 stage.
