Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has issued an apology following widespread outrage over a video that many people deemed offensive.
The video, featuring Harbhajan along with fellow cricket icons Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina, was posted on Instagram after the India Champions team secured a five-wicket victory over the Pakistan Champions in the final of the World Championship of Legends.
In the controversial video, Harbhajan, Yuvraj, and Raina were seen limping and holding their backs, mimicking physical discomfort after their triumphant performance.
The video quickly went viral, drawing sharp criticism from disability rights advocates who accused the cricketers of mocking people with disabilities. The video has since been removed.
Responding to the backlash, Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter, to clarify the intent behind the video and to issue a public apology.
In his lengthy message, the spin-bowling icon sought to explain the context of the social media post and expressed regret for any offence caused.
"Just wanted to clear to our people who are complaining about our recent videos of Tauba Tauba on social media after winning the championship here in England. We didn't want to hurt anyone's sentiments. We respect every individual and community. And this video was just to reflect to our bodies after playing continuous cricket for 15 days. SORE bodies.. we are not trying to insult or offend anyone. Still, if people think we have done something wrong, all I can say from my side is SORRY to everyone. Please, let's stop this here and move forward. Stay happy and healthy. Love to all. Regards," Harbhajan posted.
