Pakistan’s young opener, Hasan Nawaz, has made an unwanted mark in the ongoing fifth T20I against New Zealand at Sky Stadium in Wellington on Wednesday. Nawaz registered his third duck of the series, setting a new record for the most ducks by a Pakistani opener in a T20I series.

Nawaz, who made his international debut on March 16 during the first match of the series, has had a rollercoaster start to his T20I career. The 22-year-old batter began with two ducks in his first two matches, making him just the sixth batter overall and the second Pakistani to achieve this unfortunate feat.

However, Nawaz bounced back in the third T20I with a remarkable 44-ball century, the fastest by a Pakistani batter in T20I cricket. His explosive innings helped Pakistan achieve a memorable nine-wicket victory over New Zealand, showcasing his potential on the international stage.

Despite his brilliant comeback, Nawaz's form has been inconsistent. He was dismissed for just one run in the fourth T20I in Mount Maunganui on Sunday, and in the final match of the series, he fell for a duck once again. Nawaz was sent back to the pavilion for a three-ball duck by Jacob Duffy in the second over of Pakistan's innings.

This duck in the fifth T20I has now marked Nawaz's third in the series, making him the Pakistani opener with the most ducks in a T20I series, surpassing Shahzaib Hasan, Mohammad Hafeez, and Mohammad Rizwan.

Here is the list of most ducks by a Pakistani opener in a T20I series:

  • 3 - Hasan Nawaz (5 innings)
  • 2 - Shahzaib Hasan (2 innings)
  • 2 - Mohammad Hafeez (3 innings)
  • 2 - Mohammad Rizwan (4 innings)
