Multan Sultans’ top-order batsman Sohaib Maqsood has revealed the reason behind his team’s stellar comeback in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six.

The Mohammad Rizwan-led unit have won all three games since the event’s restart and are in a good position to qualify for the playoffs, despite a poor beginning to the tournament.

Maqsood believes that the bowlers stepping up has improved Multan’s results on the field.

“I don’t think we played badly in Karachi as we lost very close games. Our batting was already performing but the good thing, here in Abu Dhabi, is that our bowling is also responding really well. We don’t have any margin of error so we are playing every match as an eliminator,” said Maqsood.

He also opened up about his improved batting performance while also stressing on the importance of batting in the top-order.

“I’m thankful to the team management for making me play in the top-order as I feel that I’m most effective in those position. It was my job to respond well after they gave me that opportunity and hopefully I can continue that in the remaining games,” he said. “Also, my shot selection is better and my performance in, both, domestic and international cricket is much-improved in the top-order.”

He also praised Karachi Kings’ opener Babar Azam and Rizwan for batting at an impressive strike-rate without playing risky shots.

“If you want to play at a strike rate of 170-180, then you opt for more risky shots. On the other hands, if you are playing at a strike rate of around 120, then it is easier to be more consistent and play risk-free shots. Unless your name is Babar Azam or Mohammad Rizwan, who can play at a strike rate of 140 without taking any risks,” he said.

He also spoke about his comeback in the national side and improved fitness.

“Obviously, everyone dreams about playing for the national side but you also have to look at whether there is place for me in the top-order of Pakistan team. If I get the opportunity, I will try to do well,” he said.

“With passing time you get mature and handle things in a better manner. I have tried to improve my recovery process and sleeping habits inorder to stay fit and healthy,” he concluded.
