With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 fast approaching, Pakistan is finalizing preparations to compete as the host nation. As they gear up for a crucial Tri-Series at home, questions about their yet-to-be-announced squad have sparked discussions. Here are three players who might make a surprise return to Pakistan’s ODI lineup for the mega event:

Shadab Khan

Once a cornerstone of Pakistan’s spin attack, Shadab Khan has been absent from the ODI squad since 2023 due to a prolonged rough patch. The leg-spinning all-rounder, with 85 wickets and 855 runs in 70 ODIs, remains a valuable asset for Pakistan.
Given the team’s middle-order struggles, Shadab’s ability to contribute with both bat and ball could secure his spot. His experience and knack for performing in high-pressure situations make him a strong contender for a comeback.

Imam-ul-Haq

Imam-ul-Haq, a reliable opener with 3,138 ODI runs at an impressive average of 48.27, last played an ODI during the 2023 World Cup. With Saim Ayub sidelined due to an ankle injury and Abdullah Shafique struggling for form, Pakistan might turn to Imam for stability at the top of the order. His proven track record in 50-over cricket makes him an appealing option for the Champions Trophy.

Usama Mir

Young spinner Usama Mir could also find himself back in the squad. With 15 wickets in 12 ODIs, Mir has demonstrated his ability to outfox batters with his variations. While Abrar Ahmed and Sufiyan Muqeem have shown promise, their lack of experience (only five ODIs combined) could lead selectors to favor Mir. His success in domestic List-A cricket, where he has 86 wickets in 58 matches, further bolsters his case.

What’s Next?

Pakistan’s selection committee faces tough decisions ahead of the Champions Trophy. While Shadab, Imam, and Usama may seem like surprising picks, their experience and skill sets could prove crucial on home soil. Fans eagerly await the squad announcement, hoping to see a balanced team capable of making a strong title bid.
