The SA20 2025 season is set to take off in January, and the six teams are finalizing their lineups after completing their pre-signings and retentions.
The league commissioner, Graeme Smith, expressed his satisfaction with the progress, stating that the efforts to elevate the tournament have yielded impressive results.
Some of the cricketing stars who have joined the league include notable names such as Joe Root, Dinesh Karthik, Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Rashid Khan, Devon Conway, Azmatullah Omarzai, Jonny Bairstow, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
According to Smith, these international players, alongside prominent local talents like Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, and Heinrich Klaasen, promise an electrifying season ahead.
"To have the calibre of international players joining local heroes like Aiden [Markram], KG [Kagiso Rabada] and Heinrich [Klaasen] sets up an explosive season. We are also incredibly proud of all the domestic players who have been retained by the teams, including the majority of the rookies who have been incorporated as fully-contracted players for Season 3," Smith said.
Smith also highlighted the significance of the domestic players, particularly the rookies who have secured full contracts for the third season. Each team currently has between 14 and 17 players, with final squad selections to be made at the auction in Cape Town on October 1. Each team is allowed a maximum of 19 players, including a rookie and a wildcard, with at least ten players from South Africa and up to seven from overseas.
The league’s statement confirmed that each franchise must select their Season 3 Rookie, and three teams still have a wildcard slot to fill by December 30. The match schedule will be revealed soon.
