Shamim Hossain’s responsible half-century helped Bangladesh pull off a famous three-wicket victory against Pakistan in the Asia Cup U19 clash at Chittagong.

Chasing a modest target of 188 runs, the hosts managed to cross the winning line thanks to a classy innings from Hossain — who scored unbeaten 65 runs before being retired hurt— and Prantik Nawroz Nabil’s vital knock of 58 runs.

For Pakistan, Mohammad Musa was the top performer with the ball as he picked up 3 wickets for 23 runs.

Earlier Bangladesh after winning the toss asked Rohail Nazir-led Pakistan to bat first. The Men in Green lost their first wicket at the score of 30 when Muhammad Mohsin Khan was dismissed after scoring 11 runs.

Captain Nazir and Sami Ayub stabilised the Pakistan innings and took the team total to 73. At this point, Ayub — who was batting beautifully — was run out, one short of a half-century.  Nazir alaso went back to the hut after scoring 29 runs.  

Waqar Ahmed was Pakistan’s most notable performer with the bat as he made 67 runs before Pakistan were bowled out for 187 runs.

Rashid Hossain picked up three wickets for the hosts.

For his splendid knock, Shamim Hossain was declared player of the match.
