Following Pakistan's disappointing exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup, significant changes have been made within the national cricket selection committee.

Former selectors Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were relieved of their duties, marking a pivotal moment in the committee's recent restructuring.

Initially appointed chief selector in November 2023, Wahab Riaz saw his role altered amidst internal adjustments.

Pakistan's cricketing structure has been notoriously unstable, characterized by frequent changes in leadership across key roles, including captains, coaches, selectors, and chairman. Notably, recent history has seen a succession of chief selectors, each with varying impacts on the team's performance:

1) Misbah-ul-Haq: Serving concurrently as head coach and chief selector in 2019, Misbah's tenure was marked by mixed results, including series losses against Sri Lanka and Australia. He resigned in September 2020 due to challenges managing dual responsibilities.

2) Mohammad Wasim: Leading from 2020 to 2022, Wasim brought a period of stability highlighted by Pakistan's commendable runs in the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups. His tenure, however, ended abruptly with administrative changes under then PCB chairman Najam Sethi.

3) Shahid Afridi: As interim chief selector during Sethi's tenure, Afridi oversaw selections for a home series against New Zealand but declined a permanent role to focus on his charitable endeavors.

4) Haroon Rasheed: Assuming office in early 2023, Rasheed's tenure was short-lived due to conflicts with team director Mickey Arthur over selection autonomy.

5) Inzamam-ul-Haq: Returning for a second stint in 2023, Inzamam's tenure was marred by controversy and conflict of interest allegations, leading to his mid-term resignation.

6) Wahab Riaz: Former pacer Wahab Riaz became chief selector after a stint as Punjab sports minister following the 2023 ODI World Cup changes, including Babar Azam stepping down as ODI captain. Riaz's tenure saw controversy when he claimed Haris Rauf didn't want to join the red-ball squad, a statement Rauf denied, considering retirement over it.

After a major shake-up in PCB management, Riaz was removed from the Selection Committee following Pakistan's disappointing T20 World Cup campaign. Additionally, he has been relieved of his duties as senior team manager.
