Kaneria did not hold back in his criticism, particularly targeting Pakistan’s bowling attack
Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has harshly criticized Pakistan's performance following their innings and 47-run defeat against England in the first Test in Multan on Friday, October 11. The loss came after Pakistan posted a massive 556 runs in their first innings, making them the first team in cricket history to lose a Test match after scoring over 500 in the first innings.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the 43-year-old Kaneria did not hold back in his criticism, particularly targeting Pakistan’s bowling attack. He called for significant changes to the team, suggesting that the side should bring in younger players to improve results.
"Today Pakistan cricket team died. I mean, what should I say? The way they has played cricket, either they should stop playing cricket or if they want to play then they should bring youngsters. I don't understand what to say. How long will we keep just looking (losing) like this, what kind of people are these? Almost 850 (823/7 to be specific) runs were conceded," Kaneria said.
His comments came after England declared their first innings at 823/7, thanks to a remarkable 454-run partnership between Harry Brook (317) and Joe Root (262). In response, Pakistan were dismissed for just 220 in their second innings on the final day, sealing their defeat.
The former spinner further expressed frustration over the bowling unit's inability to utilize key strategies like reverse swing and bouncers, saying, "I feel like abusing them. I too have played Pakistan's home series and bowled on dead wickets. Where did our reverse swing go, where are our bouncers?"
Pakistan's form in Test cricket has been poor recently, failing to secure a victory in their last 11 matches, with seven losses and four draws. Shan Masood, who captained the team, has now suffered six consecutive Test defeats as skipper, both at home and away.
