Pakistan opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad has claimed that former Chairman Najam Sethi offered him Pakistan's captaincy following the 2015 World Cup.

Shehzad, who recently opened up about his career, revealed that Najam Sethi informed him that he will play a vital role after Misbah-ul-Haq as Pakistan captain.

"Najam Sethi met me in official meetings before the 2015 World Cup. In those meetings, he categorically told me that he was considering me for captaincy," said Shehzad while speaking to a local media outlet.

"He said that I was capable enough to handle the world media and I could present Pakistan's image in front of the world positively," he added.

"We think that you speak well and you dress well. Plus you're performing brilliantly, you're our asset. Since this was Misbah-ul-Haq's last tournament, he said I would lead the Pakistan side after 2015 World Cup and I should behave accordingly," he further stated.

Shehzad recently also claimed that he was held back as senior players in the squad could not digest him making progress on the international stage. He also spoke out against former Pakistan coach Waqar Younis and captain Misbah-ul-Haq.
