Erasmus, 29, played a crucial role in Namibia’s middle order, scoring eight half-centuries across formats
Namibia’s captain and all-rounder, Gerhard Erasmus, has been honored as the ICC Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Year for 2024. Erasmus delivered consistent performances throughout the year, showcasing his talent in both One Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20 Internationals (T20Is).
Erasmus, 29, played a crucial role in Namibia’s middle order, scoring eight half-centuries across formats. He was also a key player with the ball, starting the year with a five-wicket haul against Nepal in Kirtipur and contributing important breakthroughs in multiple matches.
At the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Erasmus stood out with a half-century against Scotland and a match-winning super-over performance against Oman. Despite Namibia’s heavy defeat to Australia, Erasmus displayed resilience, scoring 36 off 43 balls, the highest contribution in his team’s total of 72 runs.
His overall record for 2024 was impressive, with 727 runs and 36 wickets in 25 matches. In ODIs, he scored 364 runs at an average of 33.09 and took 18 wickets at 22.38 in 12 games. Similarly, in T20Is, he amassed 363 runs at an average of 33.00 and claimed 18 wickets at a remarkable average of 13.61 in 13 matches.
One of Erasmus’ standout performances came during a crucial Group B match against Scotland in the T20 World Cup. He smashed a 31-ball 52 to help Namibia post a competitive 155/9. With the ball, he delivered figures of 2/29, removing two of Scotland’s top three batters. While Scotland ultimately won the game, Erasmus’ all-round display was a highlight.
