India’s Jasprit Bumrah has been awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2024 following his outstanding performances during India’s tour of Australia.
Bumrah played a crucial role in India’s bowling attack across three Test matches, taking an impressive 22 wickets at an average of just 14.22. His brilliant performances made him a standout player and earned him the Player of the Series award, as he outshone Pat Cummins and Dane Paterson in the competition for the monthly award.
His exceptional bowling began in Adelaide, where his four-wicket haul helped India stay in the game despite Australia’s strong start. In Brisbane, Bumrah was in top form, claiming six wickets in the first innings and adding three more in the second innings to finish with nine wickets in the match, helping India secure a draw despite rain interruptions.
During the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, Bumrah was once again India’s hero, picking up four wickets in the first innings and then taking five wickets in the second innings, dismissing Australia for just 234 runs. Unfortunately, India’s batting struggled, leading to a heavy 184-run defeat, but Bumrah’s efforts remained a highlight of the match.
Bumrah also reached a significant milestone in the series, taking his 200th Test wicket, becoming the fourth-fastest player to achieve this feat. He made history by becoming the first bowler to claim 200 Test wickets at an average under 20.
For his exceptional and match-defining performances throughout the series, Jasprit Bumrah has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2024.
