Sadia Iqbal makes the ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year after taking 30 wickets in 19 matches
The ICC has named the Women's T20I Team of the Year for 2024, highlighting standout players from around the world who delivered exceptional performances across all departments throughout the year.
Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa)
The South African captain had an outstanding year, amassing 673 runs in 19 matches, including a century and three half-centuries. Wolvaardt’s consistency was evident, as she played pivotal roles in leading her team to crucial victories. Her remarkable performances earned her the No.5 spot in the ICC Women’s T20I Batting Rankings.
Smriti Mandhana (India)
India's left-handed batter Smriti Mandhana impressed with 763 runs from 23 matches, including eight half-centuries. Known for her consistency, Mandhana continued to perform at the highest level, earning her second place in the ICC Women’s T20I Batting Rankings.
Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka)
Sri Lanka’s skipper Chamari Athapaththu had a standout year, scoring 720 runs in 21 matches, with two centuries and four half-centuries. She also played a key role in leading Sri Lanka to victory in the Women’s Asia Cup and made significant contributions with the ball.
Hayley Matthews (West Indies)
West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews was in top form, scoring 538 runs from 16 matches and taking 14 wickets. Matthews' performances with both bat and ball earned her the top spot in the ICC Women’s T20I All-Rounder Rankings, as well as a place in the Team of the Year.
Nat Sciver-Brunt (England)
England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt had a productive year, scoring 423 runs in 16 matches with a high strike rate. Alongside her batting, she claimed seven wickets, proving herself to be a key all-rounder for England in the format.
Melie Kerr (New Zealand)
Melie Kerr enjoyed a breakthrough year, shining with both bat and ball. She claimed 29 wickets and contributed significantly with the bat, playing a crucial role in New Zealand’s Women’s T20 World Cup victory. Kerr's excellent performances earned her the Player of the Tournament award.
Richa Ghosh (India)
Richa Ghosh was in explosive form with the bat, scoring 365 runs in 21 matches at a strike rate of 156.65. Her aggressive batting, including a blistering 64* off 29 balls against UAE, made her a key player for India in 2024.
Marizanne Kapp (South Africa)
South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp showcased her all-round abilities, contributing 399 runs and taking 11 wickets in 16 matches. Her ability to perform under pressure, including a match-winning 75 against Australia, solidified her place in the Team of the Year.
Orla Prendergast (Ireland)
Irish all-rounder Orla Prendergast impressed with both bat and ball, scoring 544 runs and taking 21 wickets in 18 matches. Her performances, including a crucial knock of 80 against England, earned her a well-deserved spot in the ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year.
Deepti Sharma (India)
India’s Deepti Sharma continued to shine with the ball, claiming 30 wickets in 23 matches, along with contributing valuable runs. Her consistency throughout the year, highlighted by standout bowling performances, secured her place in the team.
Sadia Iqbal (Pakistan)
Pakistan’s left-arm bowler Sadia Iqbal was one of the standout performers with the ball, taking 30 wickets in 19 matches. She had key performances, including a career-best 4/16 against Sri Lanka, earning her second place in the ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings.
