ICC announces Men’s Player of the Month nominees for May 2024

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the nominees for its prestigious Player of the Month for May 2024. The men’s nominees feature standout players from the West Indies, Ireland, and Pakistan.

Men’s Player of the Month Nominees

Gudakesh Motie (West Indies) 
West Indies' Gudakesh Motie has been nominated for his remarkable performance in the T20I series against South Africa. Motie played a crucial role in his team’s dominant 3-0 series sweep. In the opening match, he took three vital wickets, helping to restrict South Africa to 147 runs, far short of the 176 target set by the West Indies. In the second T20I, Motie delivered another match-winning performance with figures of 3/22, securing a 16-run victory. He continued his impressive form in the final T20I, adding two more wickets to his tally and finishing the series with a total of eight wickets. His consistent contributions with the ball have positioned him as a strong contender for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award.

Shaheen Shah Afridi (Pakistan)
Pakistan’s pace sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi has also been shortlisted following his exceptional tour of Ireland and England. Afridi was instrumental in Pakistan's bowling attack, claiming 10 wickets across five matches in May. He achieved three consecutive three-wicket hauls, one against Ireland and two against England, showcasing his ability to deliver under pressure. Afridi's May average of 14.5 reflects his efficiency and consistency, solidifying his place among the nominees for this prestigious accolade.

Lorcan Tucker (Ireland)
Ireland’s wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker completes the list of nominees for his outstanding performance in the T20I series against Pakistan. Tucker amassed 277 runs in six innings at an impressive average of 37.83. His consistency with the bat was highlighted by four scores of 40 or more, including a notable 51 against Pakistan in Dublin. Tucker was a key player in Ireland's historic T20I victory over Pakistan, making significant contributions throughout the series despite a modest score in the first game. His consistent run-scoring prowess makes him a deserving nominee for the Player of the Month award
