South African all-rounder Chloe Tryon has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for May 2025, following her outstanding performances in the recent ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka and India.

Tryon beat tough competition from West Indies’ Hayley Matthews and India’s Jemimah Rodrigues to earn the award — a major highlight in her career so far.

The 31-year-old was in top form during the tri-series held in Sri Lanka, showcasing her all-round abilities with both bat and ball. Her consistent contributions played a key role in South Africa’s success throughout the series.

In South Africa’s second-last match of the series, despite a 23-run loss to India, Tryon was the standout performer. She scored a quick 67 runs off 43 balls, hitting four boundaries and five sixes. She also dismissed Indian star Smriti Mandhana, making an impact with the ball.

Tryon’s best performance came in their last match against Sri Lanka. Batting first, she guided her team to a massive total of 315 with a superb knock of 74 from 51 deliveries, which included four fours and five sixes.

She then delivered a brilliant bowling performance, taking 5 wickets for 34 runs in eight overs — the best figures of her career. Her spell also featured a spectacular hat-trick, helping South Africa secure a 76-run win.

Across the three ODIs played in May, Tryon scored 176 runs at an average of 58.66 and a strike rate of 131.34. She also picked up six wickets with an economy rate of 5.00, underlining her value as a true all-rounder.

Reacting to her first ICC Player of the Month award, Tryon said she was proud and thankful for the recognition.

“I probably did not expect this award, but I see it as a great achievement. I have been trying to find consistency for a while, so I am happy that it finally came together in Sri Lanka,” she said.

“Hopefully, I can build on those performances and help the team through the big year ahead. We have got a World Cup at the end of the year, so I am hoping to continue being consistent for the team,” she added.

Looking back at her five-wicket haul and hat-trick, Tryon shared how special the moment was for her.

“I am really happy with my five-wicket effort and the hat-trick. I was pretty tired most of the time, but I’m glad I finally got to tick that off my list," she further added.

“It’s still a bit of a blur, to be honest. The team carried me throughout that day. I was a little bit sick, so that did not help much. But everything came together, and I am just really happy that I could perform and help the team win,” she concluded.

The ICC Player of the Month awards, introduced in 2021, honour top individual performances in international cricket across all formats.
