Pakistan's hopes for the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 final have suffered a setback following their surprising defeat to Bangladesh in the opening Test of their two-match series in Rawalpindi. 

Bangladesh's clinical performance saw them chase down a modest target of 30 runs without losing a wicket, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

This loss could significantly impact Pakistan's chances of advancing to the World Test Championship finals. 

Historically, Pakistan and Bangladesh have faced each other in 14 Test matches, with Pakistan winning 12 and Bangladesh securing their first victory, while one game ended in a draw.

In the latest standings, India leads the table with 74 points from 9 matches, having won 6, lost 2, and drawn 1, boasting a PCT of 68.51%. Australia follows in second place with 90 points from 12 matches, recording 8 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw, with a PCT of 62.5%. 

New Zealand is in third position, having played 6 matches with 3 wins and 3 losses, earning 36 points and a PCT of 50.0%. England stands fourth, with 69 points from 14 matches, achieving 7 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw, reflecting a PCT of 41.07%. 

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are tied in fifth place, both with 24 points from 5 matches, having won 2 and lost 3, with a PCT of 40.0%. South Africa is seventh with 28 points from 6 matches, securing 2 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw, leading to a PCT of 38.89%. 

Pakistan is eighth, having gained 22 points from 6 matches with 2 wins and 4 losses, resulting in a PCT of 30.56%. Lastly, the West Indies are at the bottom of the table with 20 points from 9 matches, having won only 1 and lost 6, with a PCT of 18.52%.

The second Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh is set to be held from August 30 to September 3 at the same venue.
