Former Pakistan opener Imran Nazir has sharply criticized the national cricket team, labeling them as "cowards" amidst their uncertain journey to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage.

Pakistan faced a turbulent start in the tournament, losing a thrilling Super Over to the United States (USA) in Dallas in their opening match. Their woes continued in New York where they failed to chase a modest target of 120 runs set by India, resulting in another defeat under the leadership of Babar Azam.

Despite a win against Canada in their third match, Pakistan's chances of advancing now hinge on the outcomes of other Group A matches.

Expressing his disappointment with Pakistan's performance, Nazir did not mince words.

“I am sorry, but I am compelled to say that cricket is a game of the fearless. I haven’t witnessed anyone as cowardly as this team,” Nazir said.

“I frequently discuss what new excuse they will be concocting now. There are no excuses in cricket. Irrespective of the pitch or conditions you are encountering, you are obligated to play," he further added.

Pakistan's next crucial match is against Ireland on Sunday at the Central Broward Regional Park. To secure a spot in the Super 8s, Pakistan must rely on specific results from Group A:

- June 14: USA vs Ireland — Pakistan needs Ireland to win
- June 15: Canada vs India — Pakistan needs India to win
- June 16: Ireland vs Pakistan — Pakistan must win

If these matches unfold as required, Pakistan will accumulate four points from four games. India would secure eight points, while the USA and Pakistan would be tied. Canada and Ireland are expected to finish with two points each.

Despite this scenario, Pakistan must also aim for a substantial victory against Ireland to boost their Net Run Rate (NRR), a potential tiebreaker should they end up with the same points as the USA.
