Rookie all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy played a key role in India’s victory over Bangladesh in the second T20 international on Wednesday, helping the team secure an 86-run win and clinch the series.
Reddy scored an impressive 74 runs and took two wickets during the match held at New Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla ground. His innings featured four fours and seven sixes. Reddy's powerful fourth-wicket partnership with Rinku Singh, who contributed 53 runs, was crucial as they combined for a remarkable 108-run stand. This effort helped India reach a total of 221-9.
Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, India restricted Bangladesh to 135-9 in their 20 overs, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Mahmudullah Riyad was the top scorer for Bangladesh with 41 runs. This match was significant for the veteran batsman, as he announced his retirement from T20 internationals after the series. Mahmudullah hit three sixes in his 39-ball knock, which marked his 140th T20 match for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh chose to field first and managed to reduce India to 41-3 in just six overs. However, Reddy and Rinku countered the pressure with their attacking play. Reddy reached his fifty in just 27 balls and hit Mehidy Hasan Miraz for three sixes and a four before being caught out.
Rinku kept the momentum going, smashing two fours and a six to reach his fifty in 26 balls before getting out to Taskin Ahmed. Hardik Pandya also made a valuable contribution with 32 runs off 19 balls before being dismissed by leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, who took three wickets in the final over.
Bangladesh struggled in their chase, losing wickets regularly and slipping to 46-4 in just over six overs. The spinners, including Washington Sundar and Varun Chakravarthy, delivered strong performances, with Chakravarthy dismissing Litton Das for 14 runs. Reddy played a key role in the bowling attack as well, taking Mahmudullah's wicket and finishing with figures of 2-23 in his four overs.
