A thrilling second day at the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai saw a record-breaking 17 wickets fall. India took control of the match, leading by 308 runs with seven wickets in hand.

This day set a new record for the most wickets to fall in a single day at Chepauk, surpassing the previous high of 15 wickets, which occurred during various matches in 2021.

After the day's play, former Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal asked former India captain Ravi Shastri about the pitch rating. Shastri responded, “Top billing, it’s a good cricket pitch,” agreeing with Tamim that it offered something for every bowler.

In their first innings, India scored 376 runs after recovering from a shaky start of 34-3. A crucial partnership of 199 runs between Ravichandran Ashwin, who scored 113, and Ravindra Jadeja, who made 86, was key to India's recovery.

Bangladesh struggled against India's bowlers, getting all out for just 149 runs, which gave India a substantial first-innings lead of 227 runs.

At the end of day two, India was at 81-3, with Shubman Gill on 33 runs and Rishabh Pant at 12 runs. India is aiming to extend its lead at the top of the World Test Championship rankings in this new Test season, which includes ten matches.

It's worth noting that Bangladesh has never beaten India in a Test match.
