Washington Sundar, currently representing Tamil Nadu in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25, will join the national team in Pune
The India National Cricket Team has added all-rounder Washington Sundar to their squad for the second Test against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. The match is scheduled to begin on October 24th, 2024, at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Washington Sundar, currently representing Tamil Nadu in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25, will join the national team in Pune. Sundar’s addition comes at a crucial time, as the Indian side looks to strengthen their lineup for the second Test of the series. Sundar has shown promise in his four Test appearances for India, scoring 265 runs at an impressive average of 66.25 and taking six wickets. However, he has often been overshadowed by established spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, limiting his Test match opportunities.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed Sundar’s inclusion in a statement, saying, "The Men’s Selection Committee on Sunday added Mr Washington Sundar to India’s squad for the remainder of the IDFC First Bank Test series against New Zealand. Mr Washington Sundar will link up with the squad in Pune ahead of the second Test."
Meanwhile, according to reports, Baba Indrajith and Sai Sudharsan will join the India A squad for their upcoming tour of Australia after completing their Ranji Trophy match against Delhi.
