Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill are expected to be fit for the second Test against New Zealand in Pune, according to India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate. This news comes just two days after their team suffered a defeat in the first Test in Bengaluru.

Pant had to leave the field during the first Test after taking a hit to his right knee while attempting to stump Devon Conway. He experienced pain but managed to bat in the second innings, scoring 99 runs. However, there were concerns about his knee, especially given his history of serious injuries from a car accident in December 2022. Ten Doeschate stated, “Rishabh's pretty good...fingers crossed he'll be good to keep in this Test as well.”

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill missed the first Test due to neck stiffness but has been practicing and is hopeful about playing in Pune. Ten Doeschate mentioned, “He’s got a little bit of discomfort, but I think he will be good to go for the Test.”

The Indian team is looking to bounce back after losing the first match, and the return of both players could be a significant boost. Ten Doeschate also confirmed that R Ashwin is not injured, despite his limited bowling in the last Test.
