New Zealand's Tim Southee has etched his name in cricket history by surpassing Virender Sehwag's record for the most sixes in Test matches. This achievement came during the first Test against India in Bengaluru.

Southee, coming in at a challenging position with New Zealand at 233 for 7, quickly turned the game around. He formed a strong partnership with Rachin Ravindra, scoring 58 runs in just four overs before lunch. Southee finished that spell unbeaten on 49 runs off 50 balls.

During this innings, he hit his 91st six, which equaled Sehwag's tally of 91 sixes in 104 Test matches. Shortly after, he went on to break the record by hitting his 92nd six. With this feat, Southee also surpassed Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who has 87 sixes in 62 Tests.

Meanwhile, the first Test has been tough for India. After winning the toss, they struggled with the bat, scoring only 46 runs in their first innings. Only Rishabh Pant managed to reach double figures, with five players getting out for zero. In response, New Zealand took advantage and built a solid lead.

By the end of the second day, New Zealand was at 180 runs for 3 wickets. Devon Conway shined with a score of 91, while Ravindra completed his century. As the third day approached lunch, New Zealand had moved to 345 runs for 7 wickets, putting them in a strong position to dominate the match.
