Verma will lead a 15-member squad featuring aggressive opening batter Abhishek Sharma as his deputy
In an exciting development for Indian cricket, Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Verma has been named the captain of the India A squad for the upcoming Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024. The tournament, set to be played in a T20 format, will take place from October 18-27 in Muscat, Oman.
Verma will lead a 15-member squad featuring aggressive opening batter Abhishek Sharma as his deputy. Abhishek is notably one of the only two players returning from the previous edition of this tournament in 2023, which was held in the ODI format. Left-arm spinner Nishant Sindhu is the other player who remains from the past squad, emphasizing the continuity within the team.
The batting lineup is bolstered by explosive talents such as Prabhsimran Singh, Ayush Badoni, and Nehal Wadhera, all of whom have showcased impressive performances in the T20 format recently. Ramandeep Singh, who played a pivotal role in Kolkata Knight Riders' title-winning 2024 season, has also been included in the squad.
On the bowling front, the team will be led by pacer Anshul Kamboj, with left-arm spinner Sai Kishore providing support, along with several other efficient bowling options in the mix.
India A has been placed in Group B, alongside Oman, Pakistan A, and the UAE. Verma's side will kick off their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan A on October 19, a match expected to draw significant attention from cricket fans.
