Tamil Nadu batter Narayan Jagadeesan has surpassed legendary cricketer Kumar Sangakkara on Monday in terms of the most consecutive centuries in a 50-over format, setting a new world record. 

Jagadeesan achieved the milestone during Tamil Nadu's match against Arunachal Pradesh in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, India's biggest domestic 50-over tournament.

Narayan Jagadeesan scored a spectacular 141-ball 277 runs, including 25 boundaries and 15 sixes.

Apart from his huge innings against Arunachal, Jagadeesan had previously scored 128(123) against Haryana, 114* against Andhra Pradesh, 107 against Chhattisgarh, and 168 against Goa.

Tamil Nadu put up a massive 506/2 in 50 overs thanks to his astonishing performance, with opening partner Sai Sudharsan chipping in with 154 off 102 deliveries.

In the meantime, Jagaddesan's 277 against Arunachal is the highest individual score in the 50-over format.

Jagadeesan is presently the tournament's best run-scorer, with 624 runs in six appearances. Chennai Super Kings just released Jagadeesan, and with the mini-auction coming up next month, he has demonstrated his batting potential superbly.

Another record set by Narayan is that he has surpassed great Kumar Sangakkara's record for scoring the most consecutive centuries in cricket history.
