New details have emerged regarding the resignation of Jason Gillespie, Pakistan’s red-ball head coach. Sources indicate that Gillespie stepped down after his demands were not met by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Reportedly, Gillespie’s dissatisfaction began when he was excluded from the selection committee. He also expressed a desire to take charge as the head coach for both formats and requested a salary increase. However, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi declined his demand for a pay raise.

Sources further reveal that PCB had asked Gillespie to spend more time in Pakistan, a condition he was unwilling to accept. Similar reservations were reportedly expressed by white-ball coach Gary Kirsten, who also refused to stay in Pakistan outside of series commitments.

Both Gillespie and Kirsten had sought the inclusion of their preferred support staff, which the PCB did not accommodate. It is believed that Gillespie had previously threatened to resign if his demands were not met.

Gillespie officially tendered his resignation yesterday, just ahead of the Test series against South Africa. In his place, the PCB has appointed Aaqib Javed as the interim red-ball head coach.

Notably, this is the second major coaching resignation recently, as Gary Kirsten also stepped down before Pakistan’s tour of Australia.

Further updates on permanent coaching appointments are expected in the coming weeks.
