The win pushed PBKS to the fourth position in the standings with six points from four matches
Priyansh Arya’s brilliant century led Punjab Kings (PBKS) to an 18-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 22nd match of IPL 2025 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Tuesday.
Batting first, PBKS got off to a shaky start, losing half their side for just 83 runs in the first eight overs. However, Arya, who had been steady at the crease despite the early wickets, finally found support from Shashank Singh. The two formed a crucial 71-run partnership that changed the course of the match. Arya brought up his maiden IPL century during this stand, finishing with a stunning 103 runs off just 42 balls, which included seven fours and nine sixes.
Arya’s dismissal brought an end to the partnership, but Singh took over and helped PBKS reach a competitive total of 219/6. Singh remained not out on 52 from 36 balls, including two fours and three sixes, while Marco Jansen played a vital cameo, scoring 34 not out off 19 balls.
For CSK, Khaleel Ahmed and Ravichandran Ashwin each took two wickets, while Mukesh Choudhary and Noor Ahmad claimed one each.
Chasing a target of 220, CSK's innings got off to a solid start, thanks to openers Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. The two put on a 61-run partnership before Ravindra was dismissed for 36 off 23 balls. Soon after, CSK lost another wicket when Ruturaj Gaikwad went for just one, leaving the visitors in trouble at 62/2.
Shivam Dube and Conway then rebuilt the innings with an important 89-run partnership for the third wicket. However, both were departed in quick succession, leaving CSK at 171/4 in the 18th over. Conway, who top-scored for CSK, made 69 off 49 balls, while Dube contributed 42 off 27 balls, including three fours and two sixes.
MS Dhoni tried to lead a late charge with a 27-run cameo, but his dismissal on the first ball of the final over sealed CSK's fate. They ended their innings at 201/5, falling short by 18 runs.
Lockie Ferguson was the standout bowler for PBKS, taking 2 wickets for 40 runs in his two overs. Yash Thakur and Glenn Maxwell each claimed one wicket.
