The win lifted MI to 12 points from 10 matches
Mumbai Indians (MI) continued their impressive form in IPL 2025 by registering their fifth consecutive win, beating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 54 runs at the Wankhede Stadium. The win lifted MI to 12 points from 10 matches.
Powered by half-centuries from Ryan Rickelton (58) and Suryakumar Yadav (54), MI posted a strong total of 215 for 7. Suryakumar also crossed the 4000-run mark in the IPL, becoming the third-fastest player to do so.
In reply, LSG collapsed from 110 for 3 to 161 all out, with Jasprit Bumrah leading the bowling attack with figures of 4 for 22. Trent Boult also played a key role, taking 3 wickets for just 20 runs.
MI got off to a flying start thanks to Rickelton, who punished anything short or full. He reached his half-century off just 25 balls, hitting two sixes off Digvesh Rathi. Despite losing Rohit Sharma early, MI maintained their momentum.
Suryakumar picked up the pace after Rickelton’s dismissal. He struck Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi for big boundaries and brought up a quick fifty. Although LSG pulled things back slightly with wickets in the middle overs, a late surge from Naman Dhir and Corbin Bosch helped MI cross 200. Avesh’s four full tosses in the final over gave away crucial runs, pushing MI to 215.
LSG’s chase began well, with Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram scoring freely during the powerplay. Nicholas Pooran also struck a few boundaries, but MI’s bowlers soon took control.
Spinner Will Jacks dismissed both Pooran and Rishabh Pant in quick succession. Pant lasted just two balls, falling to a reverse sweep that found short third. From there, LSG struggled to build partnerships.
Marsh slowed down after a good start and eventually fell to Boult. Ayush Badoni tried to revive the innings but was dismissed for 35 as wickets continued to tumble.
Needing 76 runs off the last five overs, LSG had no answers for Bumrah’s deadly spell. He dismissed Miller with a low full toss, then bowled Abdul Samad and Avesh Khan with pinpoint yorkers. His 4-wicket haul left LSG at 142 for 8, effectively ending their hopes.
Though Ravi Bishnoi hit a couple of late sixes, it wasn’t enough. MI bowled out LSG for 161, sealing a dominant win and marking their 150th IPL victory.
