Just hours before the highly anticipated IPL 2025 final, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been hit by a major blow. Star English opener Phil Salt, one of the key performers in RCB’s impressive campaign this season, is reportedly set to miss the final against Punjab Kings (PBKS), scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3.

According to reports, Salt missed RCB’s final training session in Ahmedabad, raising concerns over his availability for the title clash. Sources suggest that Salt could be returning home to be with his partner for the birth of their first child, and he may not even be in the city on match day.

RCB have remained silent on the matter, with neither head coach Andy Flower nor captain Rajat Patidar confirming Salt’s absence. This uncertainty has only fueled speculation, especially as RCB look to end their long wait for an IPL title.

A report by a cricketing website mentioned that Salt’s absence from training is not unusual, as some players prefer to skip the final net session. However, the possibility of him flying back home for personal reasons cannot be ruled out. Given Salt’s importance to the team, RCB might delay any official announcement until the last moment.

Andy Flower, known for his tactical mind games, has a history of keeping opposition teams guessing. In the past, he has even had injured players warm up before matches to mislead rivals. Whether this is another strategic move or a genuine concern remains to be seen.

Phil Salt has been one of RCB’s most consistent performers this season. In just 12 matches, he has scored 387 runs at a striking rate of 175.90 and an average of over 35. His explosive starts at the top have been crucial to RCB’s success.

With Salt potentially unavailable and fellow overseas batter Jacob Bethell already back home for international duties, RCB face a tough call on their opening combination for the final. They could turn to Tim Seifert, who was brought in as a backup, or rely on the experience of Indian batter Mayank Agarwal.

Adding to RCB's troubles, power-hitter Tim David is also likely to miss the final after picking up a hamstring injury during a group-stage clash against SunRisers Hyderabad.
