Mumbai Indians jumped to the top of the IPL 2025 points table with 14 points from 11 matches
Mumbai Indians (MI) delivered a dominant performance to knock Rajasthan Royals (RR) out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoff race with a huge 100-run win at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Thursday.
Batting first after being put in by the Royals, MI posted an impressive total of 217 for 2 in their 20 overs. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton gave the team a strong start with a 116-run partnership.
Rickelton was the more aggressive of the two, smashing 61 off just 38 balls with 10 boundaries, including three sixes. He was bowled by Maheesh Theekshana in the 12th over. Rohit followed in the next over, caught at long-off after scoring a steady 53 from 36 balls, hitting nine fours.
Despite the quick dismissals, MI didn’t slow down. Captain Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav finished the innings strongly with an unbeaten 94-run stand. Both batters scored 48 not out from just 23 deliveries, helping MI reach a challenging total.
In response, Rajasthan Royals fell apart under pressure, getting bowled out for only 117 in 16.1 overs. It was a must-win match for them, but their batting lineup crumbled against MI’s disciplined bowling.
Jofra Archer top-scored for the Royals with 30 off 27 balls. Riyan Parag (16), Shubham Dubey (15), Yashasvi Jaiswal (13), and Dhruv Jurel (11) were the only other batters to reach double figures.
For MI, Karn Sharma and Trent Boult led the attack with three wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah took two, while Deepak Chahar and Hardik Pandya claimed one wicket apiece.
With this commanding win, Mumbai Indians jumped to the top of the IPL 2025 points table with 14 points from 11 matches. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals, who have just six points, were officially eliminated from the playoff race.
They became the second team to be knocked out of IPL 2025, following Chennai Super Kings, who exited the tournament the day before.
