A brilliant performance by Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Krunal Pandya helped Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secure a thrilling 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians in the 20th match of IPL 2025 at Wankhede Stadium on Monday. This win marked RCB’s first at Mumbai’s home ground in 10 years.

Put in to bat first, RCB set a daunting target of 221/5 in their 20 overs, thanks to a solid batting effort.

RCB had a shaky start when Phil Salt was dismissed for just four on the second ball of the innings. However, Kohli, alongside Devdutt Padikkal, stabilized the innings with a brilliant 91-run partnership for the second wicket. Padikkal, who made 37 off 22 balls with three sixes and two fours, was dismissed by Vignesh Puthur in the ninth over.

Kohli continued to anchor the innings, adding 48 runs for the third wicket with skipper Rajat Patidar before falling to Hardik Pandya in the 15th over. Kohli top-scored for RCB with 67 off 42 balls, including 8 boundaries and two sixes.

RCB faced another blow in the same over when Liam Livingstone was dismissed for a two-ball duck. However, wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma’s quick-fire cameo of 40* off 19 balls, which included two fours and four sixes, helped RCB finish strong. Sharma also shared a match-defining 69-run partnership with Patidar, who made 64 off 32 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes.

For Mumbai Indians, Trent Boult and Hardik Pandya claimed two wickets each, while Puthur took one wicket.

In response, Mumbai Indians fought hard but fell short of the target, finishing with 209/9 in their 20 overs. The hosts were lifted by an 89-run partnership between Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma. The duo rescued Mumbai from 99/4 in 12 overs to 188/5 in 17.4 overs. However, both Hardik and Verma were dismissed in the span of four deliveries, leaving Mumbai with little chance to catch up.

Tilak Verma top-scored for Mumbai with 56 off 29 balls, including four fours and four sixes, while Hardik struck a blistering 42 off 15 balls, with three fours and four sixes.

The match came down to 19 runs needed from the final over, bowled by Krunal Pandya, with Mitchell Santner and Naman Dahir at the crease. Krunal denied Mumbai any chance of a late comeback, taking three wickets in the final over, which saw Mumbai score just 6 runs.

Krunal Pandya was the standout bowler for RCB, taking four wickets for 45 runs in his four overs. Yash Dayal and Josh Hazlewood claimed two wickets each, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar took one wicket.

RCB’s 12-run victory lifted them to third place in the IPL 2025 standings with six points from four matches, while Mumbai Indians remained in eighth place with two points from five games.
