Pakistan Head Coach Mickey Arthur is among the candidates being considered for the England’s coaching role.

England’s current coach Trevor Bayliss has decided against renewing his contract, which is set to expire after the Ashes.

The England director of cricket Ashley Giles confirmed on Monday that Arthur has been in discussions with the England Cricket Board (ECB) to potentially replace Bayliss.

According to BBC, the Pakistan head coach is also interested in the job as his contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expired at the end of 2019 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup.

However, during the recently concluded mega event, Arthur expressed his desire to continue with the Pakistan team for two more years.

Pakistan secured 11 points in nine games, as many as New Zealand scored, but were ousted, from the mega event, on an inferior net run-rate.

The Men in Green had just one win, against hosts England, from first five games with three defeats, including a loss to arch rivals India, and a no-result. They staged a comeback by winning the next four games but still failed to qualify.

Pakistan won the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and reached the top of ICC T20I rankings, during Arthur’s reign as head coach, but their inconsistent performances in Test matches and One-Day Internationals (ODIs) left a lot to desire.

Arthur has also previously served as the head coach of South Africa and Australia, before taking over the coaching assignment with Pakistan in May, 2016.

South Africa coach Ottis Gibson and former India coach Gary Kirsten are also in the race for the same position.
