'It never seemed likely India would travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy', claims Indian journalist

Indian journalist Vikrant Gupta has commented on India's stance regarding the upcoming Champions Trophy in Pakistan set to be held in 2025.

In an interview with a local news channel, Vikrant said, "It never seemed likely at any stage that India would travel to Pakistan."

According to Gupta, the conflict between the two countries' cricket boards had largely played out in the media, and India's decision was neither sudden nor unexpected. He emphasized, "This decision was never in the hands of the BCCI."

Explaining the unique challenges surrounding India-Pakistan relations in cricket, Gupta added, "While teams usually participate in ICC tournaments in any host country, the circumstances between India and Pakistan were different this time."

He hinted that there might not have been any official notice given to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently.

Reacting to the situation, former Pakistani captain Rashid Latif dismissed the notion of security concerns being a valid reason for India’s decision. 

"If Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and England can tour Pakistan, India needs to present a solid reason for not coming," Latif stated firmly.

Meanwhile, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, during a media session at Gaddafi Stadium, clarified that no formal communication had been received from BCCI. 

"We have not received any letter from the Indian cricket board. If we do get an official notice, I will consult with the government," said Naqvi, adding that PCB's preparations for the Champions Trophy would proceed as planned.

Indian media recently reported that while the Indian team is open to playing at a neutral venue, it has ruled out traveling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
