Former Pakistan cricket captain Rashid Latif recently shared his thoughts on Jay Shah's appointment as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Latif suggested that Shah's unopposed election to the ICC's top position might indicate a broader strategy at play, potentially involving India's participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is set to be hosted by Pakistan.

He hinted that Pakistan's decision not to challenge Shah's appointment might be a calculated move aimed at securing India's participation in the upcoming tournament.

"PCB has not opposed Shah's appointment for a reason. I think there's an understanding. If India's team comes, it will be because of Jay Shah’s efforts, along with support from their government," Latif was quoted as saying by The Sporting News.

"Approval has already been halfway granted. India is coming to Pakistan," Latif added, indicating his confidence in Shah.

Jay Shah's tenure as ICC chairman could be a turning point in cricket diplomacy between India and Pakistan. Latif also noted that such a development could bolster Shah's reputation as a leader capable of fostering cooperation between cricketing nations.

The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to begin on 19 February and will run until 9 March in Pakistan. This ninth edition of the tournament will feature the top eight ranked ODI men's national teams.
