Joe Root has the chance to set several records during the upcoming three-match Test series against Sri Lanka, starting on August 21 at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Root has an impressive track record against Sri Lanka, having amassed 1,001 runs in 10 Tests at an average of 58.88, which includes four centuries.

Overall, Root has scored 12,027 runs in 143 Tests at an average of 50.11, with 32 centuries and 63 fifties to his name. In England's recent home series against the West Indies, he crossed the 12,000-run milestone, joining Alastair Cook as the only English batsmen to achieve this feat.

Currently, Cook holds the record for the most runs scored against Sri Lanka by an English batsman, with 1,290 runs in 16 Tests. Root is second on this list with 1,001 runs from 10 matches, and he needs an additional 290 runs to overtake Cook.

Root leads the batting runs charts in the World Test Championship (WTC) with 4,598 runs in 55 matches. He requires 402 more runs to become the first player to reach 5,000 runs in WTC history.

Furthemore, Cook's record of 12,472 runs remains the highest for England in Test cricket. Root is close behind with 12,027 runs and needs 446 more runs to surpass Cook and become England's all-time leading run-scorer in Tests.
