The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has not named a replacement for captain Ben Stokes, who has been ruled out of the series due to injury
England pacer Jofra Archer has stirred speculation with a cryptic social media post following his omission from the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has not named a replacement for captain Ben Stokes, who has been ruled out of the series due to injury.
This decision has led to Archer’s social media outburst, where he described his situation as “a waste and always injured” on X.
Archer, who has struggled with frequent fitness issues, has been rested from the remaining fixtures of The Hundred 2024 to manage his workload.
The bowler, who has featured in only 13 Tests with 42 wickets to his name, has not been active for an extended period. Despite his absence from the Test squad, Archer played a role in England’s campaign at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
ECB Managing Director Rob Key emphasized that Archer's return to Test cricket will be carefully managed.
“We don’t want to rush him, and hopefully, he will play the Test series against Pakistan. We don’t want him back for a short period,” Key said.
Archer’s recent performances include five matches for the Southern Brave in The Hundred 2024, where he took five wickets.
He remains a potential candidate for England’s limited-overs fixtures, including the three T20Is and five ODIs against Australia later this year.
