The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced an extension of Jonathan Trott’s contract as the head coach of the Afghan national team. Trott, who was set to complete his two-and-a-half-year tenure this month, has now been given a one-year extension.

In an official statement, the ACB highlighted Trott’s significant contributions, including guiding the team to its maiden semi-final appearance in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Under his leadership, Afghanistan achieved a historic feat by winning five matches in the tournament, marking one of the team's greatest accomplishments.

The Afghan team also made waves in last year’s ICC World Cup, defeating powerhouses like England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka to secure a spot in the top eight teams globally.

Earlier this year, Afghanistan faced South Africa in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup but fell short of advancing further. Despite the loss, Trott’s guidance has been widely appreciated for elevating the team’s performance on the international stage.

It is worth noting that Trott's contract was previously extended until 2024, reflecting the ACB's continued trust in his abilities to lead the team to greater heights.
