English batsman Jonny Bairstow put on a splendid display as he led England to an unlikely victory against New Zealand in the second Test match at the Trent Bridge.

After a close contest, England were left requiring 299 runs from 72 overs as Bairstow stepped up and blew the New Zealand bowling attack out the water with his 136-run knock off only 92 deliveries.

Scoring at a strike rate of 147.8, Bairstow played the innings of his life which included 14 fours and 7 maximums. His quick-fire innings saw Bairstow break several records, including one of Shahid Afridi.

Shahid Afridi scored a century against West Indies in only 78 deliveries at the Bridgetown whereas Jonny Bairstow reached the milestone in 77 deliveries, securing the record for second-fastest century in the fourth innings of a Test match.

Jonny Bairstow was supported well from the other end as captain Ben Stokes also brought his aggressive self to the crease, helping England get a 2-0 lead in the three-match Test series. During the game, James Anderson also reached the milestone of taking 650 wickets in Test cricket, becoming the only fast bowler to do so.
