Inglis smashed seven fours and seven sixes to reach a blistering hundred in just 43 balls
Josh Inglis delivered a stunning century as Australia secured a 70-run victory over Scotland in Edinburgh on Friday, sealing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.
Inglis, coming to the crease after Travis Head's first-ball duck, smashed seven fours and seven sixes to reach a blistering hundred in just 43 balls – the fastest century by an Australian in men's T20s.
Australia posted a formidable total of 196-4, with Scotland struggling in response, managing just 126 all out. Inglis's heroics laid the foundation for the win, with Scotland's Brandon McMullen fighting a lone battle, scoring 59. Marcus Stoinis led Australia's bowling attack with figures of 4-23, as Scotland's chase faltered.
Speaking after the match, Inglis expressed his delight with his record-breaking knock, saying, "It's pretty special to be honest," the 29-year-old Inglis said after stumps. "To hold that record is really nice.
"There was a bit happening (on the pitch) early doors," he said. "Once the new ball wore off, it got easier. I was just looking to play some good shots and show some intent.
"It's a good opportunity for me to get some game time and try cement my spot. There's a lot of good players but to put some performances on the board is pretty key."
Despite Brad Currie’s early success in removing Head for a golden duck, Scotland's bowlers had no answer to Inglis's power-hitting. The win sees Australia take the series with one match still to play.
