Sri Lankan batting sensation Kamindu Mendis continued his stellar form on Wednesday, September 18, as he notched his fourth Test century in just his seventh match. The left-handed batter reached the milestone on Day 1 of the ongoing Test series against New Zealand at the Galle International Stadium.

Mendis, who has been in exceptional form since his debut, achieved this feat in style, dispatching a full toss from Rachin Ravindra to the cover boundary. His fourth Test century came off 145 deliveries, showcasing his class and consistency.

Earlier in the day, Mendis had equalled Pakistan's Saud Shakeel's record for the most 50-plus scores in consecutive Tests from debut (7). The 25-year-old's remarkable achievement further solidified his reputation as one of the rising stars of Test cricket.

Sri Lanka, who won the toss and elected to bat first, faced an early setback when Dimuth Karunaratne was dismissed for two. However, Kamindu Mendis and Kusal Mendis formed a crucial partnership, adding 103 runs for the sixth wicket. Kusal Mendis was eventually dismissed for 50, but Kamindu continued his impressive knock to reach his century.

At stumps on Day 1, Sri Lanka were 302/7, with Ramesh Mendis and Prabath Jayasuriya at the crease. New Zealand will be looking to make a comeback on Day 2 and restrict Sri Lanka's lead.
