Wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has called for the inclusion of pacer Tabish Khan in the Pakistan lineup for the second Test against Zimbabwe.

Akmal believes that if off-spinner Sajid Khan can make debut after one good first-class season, then Tabish also deserves an opportunity after being a consistent performer over the years.

“Tabish has almost 600 wickets [in first-class cricket]. If Sajid Khan can make debut after being the top wicket-taker in one first-class season, then Tabish also deserves a chance to play a Test match against Zimbabwe considering that he has been performing for the past 12-13 seasons,” said Akmal while speaking on his official YouTube channel.

He also believes that likes of Abdullah Shafique and Saud Shakeel should also be given a chance, considering that Zimbabwe aren’t a strong side.

“Zimbabwe is a very weak side and Pakistan can win the Test match even if they field their third-string side. Pakistan should rest their top pacers, like Faheem, Shaheen and Hasan and give opportunities to new bowlers,” said Akmal.

“Zahid Mehmood deserves to make debut, while in batting Saud Shakeel and Abdullah Shafique should be given a chance. Azhar Ali and one of the openers could be rested to make place for these players. This is the perfect opportunity to give players confidence and experience,” he added.

Pakistan won the first Test in comprehensive fashion, by an innings and 116 runs in Harare, to take one-nil lead in the two-match series. The second Test begins at the same venue on May 7.
